About

This is a comedy and experimental writing site. If that's not your cuppa, no offense taken. Otherwise, thanks for visiting!

I've been making a point of seeing all of the Best Picture nominations before the awards show since 1996. I remember this, distinctly, because I went to see Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame by myself. It wasn't until the movie was starting that I realized all of the moms who were taking their kids to see it noticed me -- alone -- and kept their kids out of my row.

Pee Wee Thompson

As with many things, this hobby morphed into a project that was seriously dating an obsession. I now see ~90% of the nominations. I skip the shorts (animated, live action, documentary, cargo, Bermuda, booty), mostly because I can never find them. Not looking exacerbates this issue. I overweight writing categories (secretly hoping that someone will overvalue mine). I also take Documentary and International picture nominees as seriously as Best Film. Often, they exceed the more popular pictures. Just because we invented this medium doesn't mean we're the only country who can make good ones. And the "based on a true story" leaves too much wiggle room for a director. I prefer auteres who are fidgety.

Enjoy.
